Peter Doig is one of the most internationally-renowned artists working today. Over a career of nearly three decades, Doig has reinvigorated the medium of painting. His inventive style, sensuous palette and suggestive imagery set him apart from the conceptualism dominating much of contemporary art. A willingness to take up the challenge still posed by the paintings of Gauguin, Matisse, Bonnard and Edward Hopper places him in a long line of great colorists, expressive handlers of paint and creators of richly textured worlds.
Doig was the subject of a survey at the Scottish National Gallery titled “No Foreign Lands” that focused on works created in the last 10 years. From January 25 to June 8, 2014. “No Foreign Lands” also toured to Montreal’s Musée des Beaux-Arts
Over the past few years, working at Two Palms, Doig has proved to be both a prodigious and innovative printmaker as well.
